Simply put, AKiiRA takes the best elements of video, online news and RSS feeds and creates new revenue-generating solutions in the form of smart media apps for news, social media and online entertainment.

Our Short History

Although AKiiRA was officially formed in April 2009, the science underpinning AKiiRA’s patented smart media technologies were developed over an eight-year period by a Global Fortune 500 multinational corporation at a cost of more than $20 million. Since acquiring these initial technologies, AKiiRA was funded in August of 2009 to further advance and perfect its technology, products and services.

Management Team

Rohan Sanil, Founder, CEO, Board Member

Rohan brings over 16 years of entrepreneurship, business development and executive management experience to AKiiRA.  Prior to founding AKiiRA, Rohan was founder of Atstream.com, the first online video streaming service featuring uploads and online playback. Atstream had partnerships with major technology and entertainment companies including Polycom, Sony Pictures, The Recording Academy (GRAMMY Awards), and The Motion Picture Academy.

Rohan’s first startup was TRI-CAD (GIS Services Company) in Dayton Ohio, which in 1994 received the Best Startup Business of the Year Award from the Dayton Chamber of Commerce. Rohan also has proven executive experience in the IT consulting, managed software services and global outsourcing and has managed projects for clients that include Polycom, Knight-Ridder, Broadcom, Virgin Mobile, Cisco, Pacific Stock Exchange and Oracle.

Rohan holds a Master Degree in Management Science, University of Dayton, Ohio and Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Karnataka University, India.

Ted Richards, Founder, Executive Vice President Product Marketing

Ted has pioneered several major innovations in interactive and online technologies that include the first "try-before-you-buy" TestDrive software catalog system which included the first electronic shopping cart, and the ListenUp audio player the first online licensed audio download and playback system for audiohigway.com (recognized as the first MP3 Player).

Ted brings to AKiiRA his extensive executive experience managing technology marketing and is the inventor of two patents: “Try Before You Buy” software technology now held by Intel Corp., and “Interstitial Advertising System, Responding to Request for Data” held by Sony Corp. His successful career in developing online applications and e-commerce systems includes The Ford Dealer Network, Hunter-Douglas Dealer Extranet, and DNA Sciences Gene Trust Recruitment System. Ted also has over 10 years experience designing and developing online advertising formats, networks and systems.

Ted attended San Francisco State University and majored in Creative Writing, Philosophy and Industrial Arts Animation.
